Dog Grooming (Advanced): QQI Level 6

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in principles, practice and techniques applicable to the grooming of various breeds of dogs and the running of a grooming salon.

This will also be a fun and educational course. but more intense focus on breed standard grooming and specialised grooming skills.

Including:

  • Animal behaviour: gaining knowledge in animal body language, recognising the different stages of aggression, etc.
  • Animale care: learning about common health disorders, how to recognise skin and coat disorders, focus on diet and health, how to handle the older dog, how to groom/handle a sick/old/aggressive dog, etc.
  • How to start your own grooming business: being an owner, manager, and of course groomer, the importance of taxes and accounts, marketing and promotion, building good client relationships, insurance, purchasing the right equipment, health and safety, etc.
  • Grooming techniques: Handstripping, curved scissoring, more focus on grooming faces, grooming according to breed standard, grooming the more difficult dog breeds; poodle, bichons, schnauzers, etc.
Tutor Profile:

Róisín Fitzmaurice is an experienced dog grooming teacher and expert practitioner. Following on from a background in veterinary nursing and experience in veterinary clinics, Róisín moved to study QQI Dog Grooming Level 5 and Apprenticeship Dog Grooming Level 6, and has since established her own dog grooming services in both the Netherlands and Ireland.

Entry Requirements

  • As an advanced grooming course requiring students to work independently with a high degree or proficiency and knowledge, a waiting list is in operation for applicants with a QQI Level 5 in Animal Grooming only, with initial places reserved for distinction level awards.

Costs

  • A QQI certification fee of €20 is already included in course fee.
