New for Autumn 2018. This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to develop an understanding of the process of domestication of animals and the provisions needed to promote physical and mental wellbeing in domestic and captive animals.

Learning Outcomes

  • To explore the processes of evolution that have influenced species diversification and global distribution.
  • The tutor will create an awareness of Animal Welfare issues in Ireland and abroad.
  • The tutor will explore the needs of different domestic species with regard to maintaining animal health. Similarly the learner will gain an understanding of the Animal Welfare legislation in Ireland.
  • The tutor will explore with the learner the history of domestication and its impact on the behaviour, diet and socialisation of domestic species.
